Jane Fonda Goes Samba — Brazilian-born Elise Foss has made three bilingual aerobics videos using samba, salsa and other Latin dance moves to help get viewers in shape.
Is dance a sport? Does it matter? Latin dances, like mambo and salsa, are catching on in America not just as mambo or salsa dance moves but as an exercise and in some cases a sport. Shoe and apparel giant Nike is launching a new line of clothes and shoes designed for the all the dance workout routines that are exploding in popularity at fitness clubs and gyms.

Meanwhile, just north of Chicago in Evanston, a Brazilian fitness instructor has been producing bilingual work-out video mixing Latin dance moves with pull-and-twist aerobics.

Brazilian Samba Workout Video

Born in Brazil and raised in Venezuela, Elise Foss has been a fitness instructor for the 14 years she’s lived in the US. In her new video Viva! Brazilian Rhythm Workout, Foss uses the hip-shaking moves of Brazilian samba to burn off calories and shape your body.

Foss started putting Latin dance moves into her routines when she taught at Evanston and Forest Grove Athletic Clubs. As her Latin-dance classes got popular, she started work on her first Spanish and English-language aerobics videos, Viva! Latin Rhythm Workout and ˇViva! Aeróbicos con Ritmo Latino
